- Why do you think the readers want to come again to your Blog? After all you got some content that they liked but what is the base motivation for them to come again? Well, write more pages/posts frequently. Nobody likes a blog that carries a stagnant look and it will ultimately be penalized by search engines to drop your pages way down in the search results. Running a blog is as good as maintaining a costly car. You need to take care of it if you are planning to make a living out of it. If you only want to write and treat your blogs as a placeholder for your thoughts, it is a different story. But if you are one of the millions in the make money online planet, you better have the content going. The best way to update the search engines is to simply put a date on the page or post you’ve written and the rest will be taken care by search engines. Well, there has to be a balance of rich keyword based content coupled with the readers perspective in your mindset. Simply don’t write content for search engines alone. Write it for your fellow readers, who actually are the key when it comes to blogging.
- Offer additional values in your Blog. Not everyone is willing enough to give everyone with the knowledge they accumulate in the blogging world, especially when making money online is the theme. Well, at least from what I’ve seen from great bloggers like Problogger, JohnChow and DoshDosh, information is the key to make money online. Teaching others the success path would only take you to greater heights. So share and care and you will succeed.
- Please have a dedicated spot for ‘opt ins’ in your blog. In fact the proven way is to offer some good e-books or products for Free. That way, your readers would be willing enough to subscribe via e-mail. It also helps you to monetize your content through Rss feeds.
- Book marking. Well, this is a simple but very effective method. Please have a bookmark link visible in all the pages like the one I have in the Sidebar with “Bookmark This Blog!” caption. It is a human nature to think that they can come back to your blog by sheer remembrance but only 2% I would say can actually come back and the rest really forgets your Blog URL. You don’t want to loose such readers. If you don’t know how to do that, following is the Add to Favorites Script. Simply copy the script and paste it anywhere after the tag in your script. Note, the script will only work in IE (Internet Explorer). <a href=”javascript:window.external.addFavorite(’http://mysite.com’, ‘My Site’);” onMouseOver=”window.status=’Bookmark Us!’; return true” onMouseOut=”window.status=”;return true;”>Bookmark us!</a>
- Add a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’. In fact, I would suggest that you add the Social Book marking and also add some link options that can help spread the word about your blog. I like Feedburner for that very purpose. Feedburner’s Feedflare lets you build interactivity into each post.
- Brand your website. Branding is the key to prove your identity in the blog space. The visitor should be able to identify your blog for its color usage, logos, presentation and writing style in your blog. A ‘Contact Us’ page is certainly important to let the visitors touch base you with various questions or suggestions. Always remember, your blog is nowhere without valuable visitors/readers.
- ‘Our Policies’ can be a very good page to buy the trust in your readers. Explain the motive of the blog and what the readers can expect from the Blog. If you can show your face with a video, it can go a step further to build a solid platform for the visitors to step in. But take some effort to shoot a video and have a smiling face while talking. You never want to look like that marketing material. Use your brains but talk from the heart.
- Don’t let any comments unanswered. I know that as the Blog grows, it becomes a humongous task but if you can keep up with answering your readers, no one can ever stop you from being popular. I’ve already discussed about the benefits of commenting. Check it out.
- Offer free tools. It is one of the best and an addictive way to transform your visitors into subscribers. But try to offer something effective and not a freebie that is also available elsewhere.
- Last but very important point; don’t send spamming e-mails to your readers. It would only let them to unsubscribe and opt out from reading your content.
