Adding Sitemap to Google webmaster tool makes sure that your website or blog site is successfully crawled by google for better ranking. Now that google has bought feedburner, it is obvious that google has already started to implement all the Feedburner services into google products and tools. That said, Google’s Blogger.com has already added a feature to redirect all the posts to Feedburner in the “Settings–>Site Feed” tab.
Before creating a feedburner account, i already successfully added the sitemap for my blogger site to Google using the Google webmaster tool. For those who dont know how to add sitemap for blogger, just add http://Shopopedia.blogspot.com/atom.xml in the add sitemap section. Replace ShopOpedia, which is actually my blogger site, to your own blog name.
Later i added the feedburner feed url into blogger to make sure that my blogger posts/feeds are redirected to feedburner instantly. But when i checked the Google webmaster tool for any errors, the sitemap that i originally added for my blogger site ShopOpedia was showing some errors on sitemap. The reason is that the original blogger sitemap (ATOM.xml) no more works when you redirect your site feed to feedburner from blogger settings. In order for your blogger sitemap to work in Google webmaster tool, leave the “Post Feed Redirect URL” textbox in the “Settings–>Site Feed” to be empty.
What that does is to use your original atom.xml as the sitemap while users/visitors can still subscribe to your FeedBurner RSS feeds.
